Michael Wolo is an outdoorsman, adventurer and sports enthusiast. In the fall of 2003, Mike was crushed by 10,000 lbs. of granite while helping at a childhood friend’s granite import business. Pinned by his head and not breathing for nearly 6 minutes, his survival and long road to recovery were an unimaginable triumph. Being a very active person prior to the accident, it was devastating for Mike to hear from the doctors that his life that he once knew was most likely lost. Through years of hard work and much support from family and friends, Mike was able to return to the life he once lived. Being outdoors was nearly everything to Mike and only 3 months after his accident he was able to return to snowmobiling and racing back up mountain tops of Maine and New Hampshire. Giving him the confidence he can do more and achieve more Mike was back to riding motorcycles and ATV’s only 6 months post accident and mountain biking, hiking, boating and hunting by the end of summer leading into the fall.
Being active again in such a high capacity fed Mike’s fire to do more and set goals for himself to do everything he once did and more. He returned to skiing after a 16-year break and in the summer of 2012, weeks before his 40th birthday, found himself working out with a semi-pro football team to get back into peak physical shape. After 3 weeks working out with the team he was asked and encouraged to play with the team in which Mike figured he would be a backup to a backup due to his size and age. 2 hours before the kickoff to the season he was approached by the defensive coach asking if he had any line experience as they were shorthanded. It happened to be that Mike played nose-tackle most of his high school playing days and a new journey began as Mike was able to fly through the offensive line nearly untouched as the huge linemen had difficulty trying to stop a small opponent that was twice as fast as them.
Mike played with the team for just over two seasons and retired on his 43rd birthday, healthy and in one piece. During his second year of playing he met his wife, Becca, who grew up living around the corner from Mike. Love between the two was nearly instant and never slowed. Today, the two are happily married living on the South Shore of Massachusetts and just welcomed their second son the summer of 2018.
